Number of Licensees:

• 2,200 large businesses with 51+ employees
• 600 medium sized businesses with 11-50 employees
• 700 small businesses with 1-10 employees

Cost

Small Business Licence - based on the total number of employees of the company, regardless of type of business
• £130 for 1-10 employees
• £395 for 11-50 employees

Standard Business Licence:
• Band A (eg aerospace, food and defence industries) - £38.50 per professional employee
• Band B (eg finance and banking, broadcasting and publishing) - £25.75 per professional employee
• Band C (other industries not in A or B) - £12.90 per professional employee- Minimum charge of £395

Professional employees include managers, senior officials and professional and technical occupations based on the Standard Occupational Classifications published by the government Office for National Statistics.
The pricing differential is based on research into the price of the publications used in each sector. The fees increase annually according to inflation, using the Retail Prices Index.

CLA does not negotiate the price of the standard business licence with any representative body. The form and charging structure of the licence is, however, based on joint work conducted with the Confederation of British Industry (CBI).
